We have been on the job here at Twinlow Camp here in Rathdrum, Idaho for a whole week. Our team this project consist of only two couples, Tom and Evelyn, and Sharon and me. We worked with Tom and Evelyn in Minot, so we have been able to get off to a running start on the projects that Twinlow had for us. Twinlow is one of the smallest Methodist camps that we have been to. There are only about forty acres with numerous buildings consisting of cabins, lodge, dining facility/conference building, the directors house, and several other office buildings. Many of the signs on the grounds needed repair and painting. Evelyn and Sharon decided to tackle that job. They got off to a great start with the signs, and by Thursday they had almost all of them re-painted and hung up where they belong. A couple of decks needed new paint, Evelyn and Sharon charged right into that job. First they pressure washed the decks, then they will stain them next week after they dry over the weekend.
Tom and I took on the challenge of replacing some old metal framed windows in the directors house. The camp received a grant for the new windows. The new windows are the more efficient vinyl windows that have a gas between the window panes to provide the best insulation.
Check out our week.
Sharon and Evelyn are putting a new coat of paint on the old signs. They sure look new when finished.
Since this is a rustic type campground, the signs fit in nicely.
Sharon is rinsing off one of the decks before they really start the hard pressure washing.
Evelyn is really putting the pressure to the deck. This deck is off of the dining room so it gets pretty dirty from food that gets dropped on it.
Tom and I took on the job of replacing windows. Here you can see where we have removed one of the old windows. The wide areas on both sides are where decorative shutters were. We then had to cut around the top and bottom of the old window so we could remove siding from around the windows. Then we could get the nails out of the windows to remove them.
The new windows are thicker that the old ones, so Tom is cutting strips of plywood that we are using to put up in the window frames to let the new windows fit flush with the wall.
This is what the new window looks like. This is the sixth window that we had done, and the largest one.
These two window were done on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. The space along the outer edges of the windows will get trim molding.
Each of our days starts with a devotional time. We usually do this as a NOMADS team, but we were invited to join the campers each morning for devotions. It was really refreshing to be with a group of young people that are alive in Christ. They really had a great time in song and praise. The big guy in the blue shirt leads the devotion each morning. His name is Gary, but they all call him Griz. Nobody ever calls be Griz.
The group is getting ready for a song.
Listen to them sing.
After devotions everybody heads for the dinning hall for breakfast. This is one of the three meals that the camp provides for the campers. We are invited to eat with them as much as we like. I don't remember camp food being as good as it is here.
Everybody is ready for breakfast.
We had a great week of work here at Twinlow. We have really enjoyed working with Sandy and Karen, the camp maintenance chief and project director. They were once NOMADS, so they now how to direct us in what to do. The camp director, Tyler, has made us feel very welcome to the camp.
There will be new challenges as the next couple of weeks go by, but that is what it is all about, meeting the challenges head on, and accomplishing the work that our Lord has directed us to do.
Hope to have some good pictures for you next week. You all have a great week and remember,
God Always Loves You,
Gary
